It was with 100% serendipity that Deb and I met and decided to grow Gibson Insight from a one-man-show into a team. We were introduced by a dear mutual friend and discovered that our social circles had been overlapping for decades. At that time, I was coming out of a season of fatigue and the thought of mustering the energy to work alongside someone regularly was intimidating, it had been simple to work alone. Deb was pondering her next career/lifestyle move but wasn’t ready to part with her current commitments yet. In short, we were both like “maybe…should we try?”

So, we decided to experiment, to try it out and see how we worked together. We started with two shared clients in the summer of 2019 and built from there. Now, about two and a half years later, Deb has a full roster of clients with varying levels of technological and accounting complexity. And she’s an absolute rockstar at taking care of them!

Working with Deb has made me better at my job. She asks great questions, many of which I can answer. Other questions expose holes in our combined knowledge. This is always an opportunity to dig in together to find answers and solutions on behalf of our clients, and in the interest of diligence, accuracy, and value.

I believe in having goals and direction, but trusting life to unfold as it will. When Deb and I met, I wasn’t looking to grow the team. But the right person came along and it felt right to explore the possibilities. We proceeded with curiosity and honest communication and it’s all working out better than I could have hoped!

We are both always saying how grateful and lucky we feel to be working together. Deb is awesome to work with and has become a true friend too. She’s warm, generous, creative, smart, and fun. I’m a better professional and a better human being for having her in my life. Who gets to say that about their work team and mean it?
